Situation

The client, a producer of components for the automotive and other industries, had established a new facility in Czech. However output and supply to the UK logistics hub were not meeting demand.

Analysis

The business had invested in a new facility in Czech, but the quality and delivery of parts was not meeting the demand from the UK logistics hub. A number of factors were identified, around team work & communication, clarity of product specification, order placement and fulfilment, and batch quantities to suit the production technology.

Solution

Creating a combined, responsible, management team across the UK and Czech, with regular video conferences, was the key to the success of the project. From this followed a better understanding of the product definition, leading to improved quality. Improvement to OEE was achieved through faster set ups, but also reducing the number of changeovers through better forecasting.
